Keyword density is one of those areas in SEO where there are great differences in opinion. Some adamantly say that search engines do take into account the percentage of keywords distributed on a webpage; while others shrugged this claim off from the get go. [Read more...]
The new iPhone 4 – will you join the iPhone bandwagon too?
The new iPhone 4 was officially released for sale in the UK yesterday. George rung me up while I was at work and told me he was going to buy me one as it’s almost my birthday (July), how exciting! I told him I wanted the 16GB one in white and sim-free. Queues were mad at every store that stocked the new iPhones and to prove it, George took a photo (on his black iPhone 3G) and sent it to me (on my white iPhone 3G).
As he is not a queuing kind of guy, I knew as soon as I saw the photo that I wouldn’t be getting one. I found out later that the white one isn’t even available anyway, not even for pre-order! Pah. [Read more...]
Domain age and its effect on seo and rankings
My colleague Rob and I wrote a post on whether domain age matters in terms of SEO and a site’s rankings. Domain age is a much discussed topic in the world of SEO. After all, surely an old domain signifies trust and authority in the eyes of the search engines, or does it not?
We describe the pros of having an old domain and the reasons why they are sometimes preferred over newer domains. We also carried out a study on some randomly chosen keyword phrases and gathered the data from the first and second page to see whether the results correlate with the theories discussed.

Google Caffeine now officially live!
After months of speculation and talks of Google Caffeine update, what it actually is, when is it going to happen etc, Matt Cutts officially announces the rollout of Caffeine at the latest SMX Advanced session.
We now know that it’s not an update to the ranking algorithm but to the actual indexing infrastructure; fresher, more relevant content delivered to search results pages 50% faster than before. It’s going to be like a brand new search engine with a faster and more efficient way of indexing web pages. [Read more...]
Julie has landed
It’s 9.30am on a Monday in Hong Kong. I arrived late last night and was surprised just how cool it was for June having prepared myself for lots of sweating and copious mosquitoes to try and fight off.
There’s a cool breeze and only one mosquito in sight. Apparently it’s the coolest June in almost 100 years? Very odd anyway, but I’m not complaining!!
The flight from Manchester to Dubai was hard work as the seats were unusually high and my little legs couldn’t reach the floor which meant the blood wasn’t flowing properly and my legs kept going numb; there were no foot rests, why did they remove them?! Suffice to say I didn’t sleep a wink on this journey.
Dubai to Manchester Hong Kong was much better, mainly because I was so nackered I had a good kip. Two hours left into the flight, I asked the Chinese guy sat next to me if I could have his chocolate muffin that he left on his tray, as I opted out of the chicken sandwich ‘lunch’ snack with it being so late in the evening. He seemed happy I spoke Cantonese and proceeded to tell me about his wife and daughter and how they’d spent a fortnight travelling all over Italy.
I was pleased he thought I was a Hong Kong local as I thought my Catonese speaking skills were lacking somewhat, but he said it sounded very fluent. Hehe.
I’m all clean and showered now, just having some breakfast of shredded pork congee with a side serving of ginger and spring onions, and steamed rice rolls covered in soya sauce and peanut butter. Oh my days, it’s very good.
