Google Caffeine now officially live!

After months of speculation and talks of Google Caffeine update, what it actually is, when is it going to happen etc, Matt Cutts officially announces the rollout of Caffeine at the latest SMX Advanced session.

We now know that it’s not an update to the ranking algorithm but to the actual indexing infrastructure; fresher, more relevant content delivered to search results pages 50% faster than before. It’s going to be like a brand new search engine with a faster and more efficient way of indexing web pages.

In the past, Google’s indexing system would crawl web pages in batches, so although some web pages’ data such as the content on them, inbound links and the anchor texts used had been processed, they would not be put live into the actual search results until the entire batch had been completed. Now, each page that Google crawls will be processed as is and will be sent live almost instantaneously.

This is great news for both searchers and content publishers alike as it means we can expect fresh, highly relevant and quality pages in the SERPs with up to date information provided – just mere seconds after a page has been crawled.

Note that although the Google Caffeine update affects the infrastructure of the actual indexing system and has nothing to do with the algorithm used for ranking, webpages in the SERPs may well be affected by this change. If you strive to have quality content on your webpages and keep your site as fresh, updated and informative for your users as possible then there is nothing more you can do and nothing much to worry about.

Just remember that Google’s one and only aim is to be as informative as possible and provide the most relevant content to a searcher’s query.

  1. Hi Julie, I think Caffeine will have a positive affect on sites with good content, and it’s important that the content be fresh too. I started seeing more traffic to my blog as soon as Caffeine started rolling out. It should be a win-win for everyone. Thanks for the video link.
