Google Wonder Wheel | Keyword Research Tool

I stumbled across this very interesting Google feature today and wanted to share – the Google Wonder Wheel. It seems to have been around for a while, but I’ve never used it or even heard of it until now! While it’s a fun way to search and allows users to find similar or related search results, it is also an extremely powerful tool that can provide us fellow SEO’s with invaluable information and insight when performing keyword research.

For my example, I will search for the term ‘cook sea bass’.

Clicking on the ‘Show options’ tab after the search results have been returned will open up a sidebar with several options for filtering and displaying the results in different views.

I know the search is in standard view as it’s shown in bold; we need to click on ‘Wonder wheel’ in order to change the view. Here, you can see my result displayed in the middle of a circle with spokes like a bicycle wheel that extend to other related keywords. The great thing is you also get to view the correlating results on the right hand side.

Say I click on ‘skinning sea bass’, this will bring up a second circle attached to the first keyword, with the search term in the middle with further related terms connected via extended spokes. The search results will update and display the current keyword’s search results. I can keep on going until I find something that interests me, or I can clear the screen and go back to the starting point by clicking on the original keyword.

As you can see, by clicking through these keywords successively you can navigate your way around in a visual way and find many search terms that you may or may not have ever thought of, which you can utilise in your SEO campaign.

If you’ve ever used this tool, I’d love to hear your thoughts on what you think of it. Do you love it? Hate it? Think it’s pointless or just a gimmick?
